SimplyMEPIS 6.0 RC3 Screencast |
Sunday, 16 July 2006 |
MEPIS has announced the rc3 release of SimplyMEPIS 6.0. RC3 contains more bugs fixes, several of which were contributed by the community. MEPIS is reviewing the licensing rights and obligations associated with the packages available in SimplyMEPIS. This has resulted in some changes and a delay in the shipment of 6.0. This is one sharp, quick distro that is at the top of its class. We had no problems whatsoever booting up this release right to a "ready when you are" desktop. We're looking forward to the completed release! Check out the boot up and desktop features by clicking on the picture below.

GParted LiveCD 0.2.5-3 Screencast |
Monday, 10 July 2006 |
Patrick Verner has announced the release of the latest version of GParted which is an excellent and easy to use Partition Manager that is small enough to fit on a mini CD. In short it allows you to create, resize, copy, destroy, and check the partitions and filesystems on a disk. He says "I added some goodies people have been asking for: partimage, grub, rsync, fdisk, cfdisk, and sfdisk. Links has also been included to view LarryT's docs while running the LiveCD and LiveUSB. Some other stuff was upgraded like adding a shutdown-menu and the entire layout of the root filesystem. All of the symbolic links and /fake/needwrite stuff is now gone. The entire rootfs is compressed with squashfs and the boot process has been vastly changed. This saved almost 5mb to add extras. The kernel was also updated to Linux-2.6.17.4. Please click the picture below to see a short video of the boot up and desktop of GParted.
